Why Elope in Denmark? 5 reasons why you should discover the beauty of Denmark

When it comes to choosing a destination for your elopement, Denmark may not be the first country that comes to mind. You are considering eloping but aren’t fully sure if this is for you? Check out our article on why eloping is the best way to get married!
But this small Scandinavian nation has a lot to offer for couples who want a unique, beautiful, and stress-free elopement experience. Denmark is not only known for its beautiful fjords and colorful cute towns there are many reasons. Let’s dive into those:

  1. The Faroe Islands:

I’m not holding back. I stumbled upon these islands while doing some research and fell in love. It’s quite remote and just a few countries offer flights to the Faroe Islands. It’s a group of 18 islands, which are a self-governing region within the Danish state located in the North Atlantic Ocean, between Iceland and Norway. To be honest with from the beginning on, it’s also quite pricey, but it’s definitely not crowded with tourists. This hidden gem offers a magnificent landscape, with rugged mountains that plunge into the sea, cascading waterfalls, and charming Nordic villages. It is a dream destination for couples seeking an intimate and adventurous elopement.

  2. LGBTQ+ Friendly

In fact, Denmark was the first country to legalize same sex marriage in 1989 and thanks to that, is a few years ahead in their progressive approach to making LGBTQI* couples feel safe and welcome. We love it!

  3. Greenland

We’re talking about the world largest Island! It’s three times as big as Texas! Although Greenland remains part of the Kingdom of Denmark, the island has it’s own government! It’s the home of the Inuit who call their Island. Kalaallit Nunaat (“Country of the Greenlanders”).
The Island has an incredible scenery and is the perfect place for all the adventurous souls who love snow, crystal clear water, majestic glaciers and icebergs. It’s worth it to travel during summer when the icebergs glow under the midnight sun, but also during winter when the northern lights appear above the snowy landscape. Just imagine exchanging vows under the crystal clear sky while the northern lights dance above you. Greenland can make the perfect location for a winter elopement.

  4. Copenhagen

this city is not only known as the safest city globally but it’s also an El Dorado for design and architecture lovers. Copenhagen embodies the Danish concept of "hygge,". Which translates to a feeling of coziness, warmth, and contentment.Isn’t that perfect for your Elopement? From Copenhagen there also flight leaving to Faroe islands and Greenland. So maybe it’s the perfect start for your wedding journey.

  5. Eloping at the beautiful cliffs of Møns Klint

Only a two-hour-drive from Copenhagen, you can find the six-kilometer chalk cliffs with a span of 128 meters above the sea. This place is absolutely mesmerizing! Think of azure blue water with majestic white cliffs calmly overlooking the scenery. On top, you can find a lush beach forest with rare animal species to discover. This location is the perfect place if you can’t decide if you’re a beach lover or would prefer the mountains instead.

All in all Denmark offers a wide range of choices for couples who seek an alternative and beautiful elopement experience. My heart beats faster thinking of the Faroe islands and Greenland. They just scream, epic! If you're adventurous and want something different for your big day, consider eloping in Denmark, and you'll get nature's beauty, culture, and intimacy in one trip.

These are our favourite places but Denmark has many more wonderful elopement locations to offer. And so have other countries in Europe! Are you looking for more elopement inspiration? Check out our Instagram and Pinterest for beautiful elopement locations and emotional first looks.
