Postcard from Madeira: Eloping in surfer’s paradise

Let’s start an adventure together! We are your elopement photographers in Madeira, ready to explore the place with you and make sure that these memories will be unforgettable. If you aren’t in love with Madeira yet, we are ready to show you its wonderful lush greenery, black sand beaches, and high cliffs. Madeira is also the perfect spot for your elopement, let us show you why!

Why eloping in Madeira, you ask?

It’s simple: Madeira is an absolute paradise. You will find the sea on one side, the mountains on the other. We have lost our heart here long ago! The island is perfect for a romantic getaway far from the crowds. Immerse yourself in nature, get lost, and go on a little adventure. No matter if you are into hiking, love a good dip in the ocean, are an experienced surfer or just want the wind blowing in your hair, this is the place for you. Its wild beauty will take your breath away.

And it’s not just nature. The people of Madeira love a good view, a resident told us. When the Madeirians build or buy a house, the view is the most important criteria for them, so if you manage to get invited by the locals, you for sure can embrace an excellent view!

3 tips for your  Madeira elopement

Rough cliff lines tower over black pebble beaches, surrounded by turquoise water. Small hiking trails cut into the land and call you to follow its paths. We know it's rather known as an island for elderly people who are in love with the magical, tropical flora and fauna. And for a reason: The nature here is absolutely  incredible.

1.Go plant hunting (for pictures). Remember the trendy plant you recently bought from the plant shop? Or the pretty ones that keep popping up on Tik Tok and Insta? Yep, you will find all of them here in the wild.

2. Find the perfect swell. This island is also called the Hawaii of Europe, not only because of the green cliffs that drop into the deep blue ocean but also because it's a surfers paradise! We wouldn’t really recommend it for beginners but for intermediate surfers and pros it’s an incredible spot. The village Jardim do Mar has a famous swell and the city ist too cute to be true! But the whole north has a pretty good surf.

3.Explore magical forests. Madeira means “wood” in Portuguese. And you can find a lot of it there! When you go up the mountains, you'll find a fairy tale forest. Fanal is a magical place with trees covered with moss standing in whimsical fog.

Best food tips for Madeira

  • If you love seafood, Madeira has some crazy good local food on offer.  Lapas are a local mollusc that attaches itself to the rocks on the coastline and a local delicacy worth checking out.

  • Many different fish like the local Castanhetas are made on the BBQ and enjoyed in shared meals and of course, you will find good steaks and a variety of tasty veggie options.

  • Thanks to the good climate, Madeira is full of banana plantations with sweet and flavourful bananas. If you like, you can visit one of the many plantations and learn about the harvest process from a native.

  • Additionally, Madeira is full of excellent vineyards with sweet dessert wines all the way to dry table wines.
