Why the West Coast of France is an epic place to get eloped

Honestly, the whole of France is one incredible elopement location: It is full of romantic little villages either at the seaside or glued to the side of some stunning mountains, its monumentally beautiful mountain ranges will leave you in awe and then its coastline…! (For more inspiration, check our blog. We already shot couples in some of the most beautiful spots.)

And don’t get me started on the food. France has some of the finest bakeries in the world. Who doesn’t want to start their day with the fluffy buttery goodness of a freshly baked croissant? Then finish it off with a glass of wine (or alternatively a cold pastis in summer) while listening to the sound of cicadas -  this sounds like an absolutely perfect day to me! The French lifestyle is so famous for being easy-going and relaxed that there is even an expression for it: “Savoir Vivre”. However, the Westcoast of France has taken a very dear spot in my heart. Let me show you why. You may think of a lot when thinking of the Westcoast of France. But huge sand dunes looking like a desert crashing into the ocean? This is an absolutely magical spot outside of Bordeaux and it’s waiting for you!

Inspiration: Eloping in one of the most beautiful spots on earth

I found this amazing location by accident and was thunderstruck by its magic. Hidden away only a few kilometres from the busy city of Bordeaux, huge sand dunes provide an outstanding background for your vows.

I travelled to France to meet Paulina and Gabriel there. At first, the two of them had a long-distance relationship between Germany and France. Finally, Paulina moved in with him. The couple is not married (yet) but loves the intimate feeling of empty French beaches. As a small preview and inspiration for intimate weddings, we decided to do a couple shooting in the Dunes du Pilat. If you are looking for the perfect spot to elope, I think this one should be on your list. It’s remote but close to one of the bigger cities. You can hide away from the crowds or be swooped away by the fun way for French living (or a good mix of both).

Elopement pictures aren’t all about white dresses and big bouquets. Paulina’s lightly embellished long dress fit perfectly into the scenery and so did Gabriel’s shirt and jeans combo. It’s all about capturing the beautiful connection between two people. This is what wonderful and intimate elopement pictures can be created when everything feels just right.

Why eloping in the first place?

Getting married doesn’t have to be stressful. It’s all about you and your partner. It’s your day to celebrate your love and this very special connection that you share. No need to accommodate anyone else. A wedding for two - whether it takes place in France, in New Zealand or in Madrid, Spain - is relaxed and intimate, especially in comparison to a busy, traditional wedding. It is purely focused on your and your love. Does that sound just right for you? If you want to spend your big day as a couple or with a handful of guests, we are happy to help you plan and make your vision come to life. We can help you implement your elopement - and take wonderful, relaxed pictures of you on your big day in a place that means a lot to you and your partner!
