Eloping in the Mountains

Why the mountains are the perfect spot to elope

This is for the adventure seekers. The ones that roam wild and free. You just got engaged and you don’t see yourself as the big white wedding type of couple? We’ve gotcha!

Picture yourself somewhere wild and beautiful. In a place full of magic and elation. Just you and your partner in the big wide open, majestic rocks overtowering the scene. Eloping in the mountains might just be your calling.

A destination wedding in the mountains is perfect if you are fed up with big crowds and want a big open space all to yourself. Are you up for an adventure? You can climb the mountains on your big day, starting the new chapter of your life with a little hike together. The mountain panorama comes with stunning views that will leave you in awe.

Choosing your element

Celebrating your elopement in the mountains is one big adventure. And you can choose exactly what you want to get out of it. No matter if you are after a big adventurous climb with your loved ones or simply want to enjoy a breathtaking view for your elopement, the mountains offer high feeling to anyone who follows their calling.

However, eloping in the mountains isn’t just for experienced climbers and mountaineers. Your mountain elopement can be anything you like. You can conquer huge peaks in the French Alps with your loved ones or simply embrace the epic background of the Dolomites for a photoshoot. With less light pollution, they can allow for stunning night time pictures under the milky way as well.

Eloping in the mountains is a stunning idea if you love snow and winter sports. Imagine you can celebrate your marriage in a breathtaking mountain panorama one day and then go snowboarding the day after and t have an epic trash-the-dress photo shoot with lots of fun and laughter. That’s dreamy!

Why eloping in Europe?

Europe is the perfect playground for an adventure wedding. With many beautiful mountain regions, it can be hard to choose your favourite. Europe has a vast range of stunning nature, high peaks and awesome backdrops for photoshoots. Eloping somewhere in Europe allows you to explore remote places of breathtaking beauty during the day and spend your evening in a cute mountain village with a glass of wine - or a buzzing metropole with a cocktail in your hand if that is more to your liking.

Countries like Italy, Spain, and Portugal are well known for their lively culture and exceptional cuisine. If you prefer wild-looking nature and solitude, the Scottish Highlands might be your cup of tea.

Something very close to our hearts: Eloping in Europe allows you to choose more sustainable ways of travelling to protect the nature you are coming to see. Carpooling with your loved ones or taking the train allows you to take in more of your travel destination and reduce the impact you are having on the environment.

Best locations for eloping in the mountains

This is a collection of our most beloved mountain ranges in Europe and we think you will love them, too. However, this is only to get you inspired. Europe and the rest of the world have so many wonderful beaks and boulders to offer and we love to explore new areas with you. Which mountains do you personally love the most?

The Dolomites in Italy

The Dolomites in Italy are one of the most recognized landscapes in the world. With high peaks, mesmerizing blue lakes, and lush green meadows, it is one of the most epic backgrounds for your elopement. You can spend days on hiking tracks there and lose yourself in the most epic adventures.

The national park Ecrins in France

The national park Ecrins in the south of France offers beautiful lakes within an epic mountain range. Its high elevation makes it a paradise for hikers, mountaineers, and nature lovers. It’s rich flora and fauna is spread over a large area of unspoiled territory for you to explore.

The Pyrenees

The Pyrenees span between France and Spain and lure you with beautiful hikes on high terrain. They are very popular among cyclists and invite for long scenic walks that are easily accessible - or completely remote.

The Scottish Highlands

The Scottish Highlands have their own mystical atmosphere. Their dark greens and moody weather is perfect for a very special elopement shoot. It builds a gorgeous backdrop with dark, old castles, foggy grassland, and eye-catching stone formations. Additionally, there is so much culture to explore. Finish your celebration with a glass of whiskey on the rocks (literally).

The Balkan Mountains

You can find solitude and remote adventures in the Balkan mountains in Bulgaria and Serbia. Their peaks tower over green valleys and wild rivers. You can go on long hikes without meeting a single soul or instead make new connections in their lively cities and embrace the local culture.

What a mountain elopement can look like

Eloping in the mountains can take you to the most breathtaking places on earth - or you may find wonderful mountains right at your doorstep. I spotted this amazing mountain on the North Island in New Zealand while travelling there and immediately fell in love: Mount Taranaki.

It was absolutely perfect. I met Aleisha and Caleb there to celebrate their connection and capture the moment. I hope they will be brought back to that wonderful light and the magical atmosphere whenever they look at the pictures.

Eloping in the mountains is easier than you may think. Many mountains won’t require a long hike to get to a beautiful spot. Like Mountain Taranaki. We strolled around and caught the last beams of sunlight perfectly sitting behind the mountain. And we absolutely fell in love with the stunning view on Mount Taranaki. It’s the perfect spot to elope with your loved ones. Bring a small number of friends and family and share the start of your next big chapter.

The next day, I started my own adventure and climbed the mountain. Where is your next big adventure gonna take place? You don’t have to fly all the way to New Zealand to find stunning mountains like Mount Taranaki. Think of the Dolomites as a European alternative! The mountain range is absolutely stunning and offers many breathtaking views (and incredible panorama backgrounds for your elopement pictures). Many locations are very easily accessible and won’t require a big hike - but of course, the next big adventure is just waiting around the corner!
